Speaking ahead of the game, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed he is considering handing a recall to fit-again goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois for the clash with Bournemouth.

Courtois, 23, has been sidelined by a knee injury since mid-September, but is poised to return to the field and boost a Blues side who are unexpectedly way down in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

Asmir Begovic may give way to Courtois for the teatime visit of the Cherries, or Mourinho may wait until next week to bring his preferred number one back for the Champions League clash with FC Porto.

The Blues boss told reporters: “To miss Thibaut for a couple of matches we knew we had good protection, but to lose him for three months – for 19 matches – without the best goalkeeper in the world – is tough for us.

“Now we are back to a situation with the best and one very good. Sooner or later, he will be my number one. If he does not play against Bournemouth he will play against Porto.”

Meanwhile, Mourinho added that Diego Costa is in line for a recall, with the striker having been less than pleased at being an unused substitute for the goalless draw at Spurs last weekend.

He concluded: “Diego Costa is selected. I didn’t ask him how he found being dropped, but he trained very well and that is what matters to me.

“There are no questions for me. He is one of the players who always tries, I don’t need a reaction from him.”
