Vazquez is coming off of the best season of his career.

The New York Yankees have acquired Javier Vazquez from the Atlanta Braves.  All the Yanks had to give up in exchange for the National League Cy Young contender from last season was Melky Cabrera.

Since the Yankees had already solidified themselves in the centre field position with Curtis Granderson, Yankee backers and fans have to be delighted with this trade.

Vazquez was exceptional last season for the Atlanta Braves as he compiled a 15-10 record and a 2.87 ERA.  His WHIP was a career low at just 1.026 and for those reasons he finished 4th in the National League's Cy Young vote.

If Vazquez duplicates his 2009 totals and starts 30+ games then look for him to threaten to win 20 games for the first time in his career in 2010.

While pitching in the new Yankee Stadium isn't something any pitcher can really look forward to, Vazquez averaged more than a strikeout per inning last season.   If he keeps that up, it should help curb the number of longballs he gives up in the home run prone park as hitters struggle to put the ball in play.

Currently you can bet the Yankees at +350 (7/2) with either Sky Bet or Boylesports to win the World Series in 2010.  The acquisition of Vazquez adds value to that price and if you know you are going to take the Yanks for the 2010, right now might be the best time to make your bet.

Go to Sky Bet or Boylesports to bet on Major League Baseball.
